Under the Cover: A Closer Look at the Andy Guest Series 2 Jetter
The Andy Guest Series 2 is a compact, diesel-powered van-pack jetter designed for routine domestic and commercial drainage work. Delivering 3000 psi @ 9 gpm (200 bar @ 41 lpm), the machine provides the pressure and flow needed to clean and unblock pipelines up to 300mm in diameter.
Its performance comes from proven mechanical components, electronic controls, and protective systems, all designed for reliable operation throughout the workday.
We take a closer look beneath the Series 2's engine cover, examining the main components and how they contribute to the machine's performance, reliability and ease of operation.
Kubota D902 Diesel Engine
At the heart of the Series 2 is a Kubota D902 24hp diesel engine, a three-cylinder, water-cooled unit that provides the power required to drive the high-pressure pump.
Diesel remains a popular choice among drainage contractors, particularly those doing regular contract work or running machines for extended periods. Diesel engines suit sustained workloads, offering strong torque and consistent power delivery when driving high-pressure pumps. For contractors already operating diesel-powered vehicles and equipment, familiar servicing and refuelling arrangements can also make diesel jetters a practical fleet choice.
The D902 features Kubota's E-TVCS (Three Vortex Combustion System), which improves combustion efficiency while helping to reduce emissions and operating noise. Compliant with Stage V and Tier 4 emissions standards, the engine suits contractors working across domestic, commercial, and urban environments.
The Series 2 also incorporates a heat exchanger instead of a conventional radiator, reducing the machine's overall size and weight. Combined with the redesigned acoustic engine cover, this helps reduce operating noise while maintaining the performance required for regular drainage work.
Triplex High-Pressure Pump
A triplex plunger pump utilises the power from the Kubota engine to supply a consistent level of high-pressure water during jetting operations. These types of pumps are the industry standard for high-pressure water jetting because their three-plunger design delivers extreme, continuous pressure with minimal flow pulsation and maximum mechanical durability.
The Series 2 delivers 3000 psi @ 9 gpm (200 bar @ 41 lpm), balancing pressure and flow for daily operations, including drain cleaning, blockage removal, and pipe maintenance.
Pressure breaks down obstructions and removes deposits from pipe walls, while water flow carries loosened material through the drainage system. Together, these determine how effectively the jetter performs across different applications.
Electronic Controls and Remote Operation
The Series 2 features an electronic push-button control panel mounted directly on the machine, providing operators with a straightforward way to operate the machine.
A 7-channel radio remote control also enables remote operation of the machine, reducing the need to return to the vehicle throughout the jetting process. This is particularly beneficial for single-person operations, allowing the engineer to stay close to the drainage access point while managing the equipment.
The combination of onboard and remote controls provides flexibility in different working environments and simplifies routine jetting operations.
Cooling and Pump Protection Systems
Alongside the engine and high-pressure pump, the Series 2 incorporates several supporting systems designed to protect its main components during operation.
The water-cooled engine and heat exchanger help manage operating temperatures, while the machine's standard run-dry protection safeguards the high-pressure pump when the water supply is insufficient.
The Series 2 also features an unloader and anti-freeze valve arrangement to support pressure management and protect against freezing conditions. These systems improve the machine's overall reliability and reduce the risk of damage during everyday use.
Hydraulic Hose Reel and Water Supply
The Series 2 features a hydraulically driven, high-pressure hose reel with 80m of lightweight, single-wire jetting hose. The hydraulic drive assists with hose retrieval, reducing manual handling and making it easier for operators to manage the hose during and after jetting work.
An integrated 20m filling hose reel is also included, providing a convenient way to replenish the water supply on site. The standard machine includes a 400-litre water tank, with 650-litre and 800-litre options available for contractors who need more water capacity.
Compact Construction and Vehicle Installation
The Series 2 features a compact, powder-coated steel frame, designed to accommodate its main mechanical components while keeping the overall footprint small. The vented engine cover protects the main machine components whilst providing additional noise suppression.
With an approximate dry weight of 350kg, the machine fits in a range of small commercial vehicles, including the Ford Transit Connect, Vauxhall Combo and Volkswagen Caddy. Its compact layout lets contractors keep valuable vehicle space for additional tools, CCTV equipment, and other drainage accessories.
Andy Guest also offers stack and split configurations, allowing the Series 2 to be adapted to different vehicle layouts and operational requirements.
